Spotlight Sunday: Steph Dewar! “What I have now isn’t a diet or a gym routine it’s just my lifestyle and I wouldn’t change it”

Spotlight Sunday: Steph Dewar! “What I have now isn’t a diet or a gym routine it’s just my lifestyle and I wouldn’t change it”

Before I joined PW, like most people, I had tried quite a few different types of exercise and diets but nothing had really worked, not for any length of time anyway.

I generally enjoy most sports and used to keep quite active, but a knee injury from rugby that required surgery in 2018 put me out of sports and exercise in general for quite some time; this affected both my fitness and weight.

I then joined a local sport centre that offered fitness sessions but despite having a variety of sessions available it just wasn’t for me and I found I was paying for it but not using it!

I then thought I had found the answer with cross fit which I joined in 2019 but despite enjoying the sessions I found the mentality of AMRAP (as many reps as possible) meant that I spent more time out injured then I did actually doing it!

My Shake Diet Detox – A New Beginning

My Shake Diet Detox – A New Beginning

Today is the first day of my Shake Diet Detox. This is a new beginning for me in a lot of ways.

Firstly, up until now, I’ve been vehemently against shake diets. When you have any kind of nutritional qualifications, just looking at the ingredients on these things would be enough to make you want to eat the packaging as a healthier alternative.

However, I do feel like years of putting just as much effort into my cheat days as the other days of the week have left me, shall we say, clogged up and sluggish.

The other thing is, I have a kid now. I have a child who will grow up copying me and learning from my example. I think it’s important that he learns from an early age that replacing solid food meals with formulated shakes is a perfectly normal and healthy thing to do. After all, at one point half of his diet was liquid and in all honesty if I could get half my nutrition from being attached to a boobie, I’d do exactly the same thing!

That seems like a win any way you look at it!

Boobies.

So I had my final meal this morning and I made sure it was a good one: Speedy Pancakes from our 21-day Quickstart Meal Plan with chocolate sauce. Because let’s face it, if you’re going to have a final meal, it should have chocolate sauce. The fact I put chocolate sauce on everything is neither here nor there.

I’m only gutted I didn’t have any bacon.

5 Insider Tricks to Stay In Shape Over Christmas (while still having fun!)

5 Insider Tricks to Stay In Shape Over Christmas (while still having fun!)

If the election hasn’t distracted you too much, you may have noticed it’s just over a week until Christmas! That’s like seven more sleeps until the big man comes down your chimney and eats your mince pies, and probably Rudolph’s carrot. Yeah, I’m on to you Santa…

So that means that we need to be prepared. Not for Santa eating your mince pies… just to be clear!

I’m going to give you five top tips to get through that Christmas period without gaining the usual five, six, seven, even ten, or twelve pounds that people gain over that week (yeah, week! Which often turns into a fortnight, which just makes things worse) While still having a great time and enjoying yourself. Spotlight Sunday: Sue Fenwick! “Today I feel in the best shape of my life, have such a positive outlook on life, and I’m a role model to my kids”

I am 44, had 4 kids and work full time. My journey started in 2014 when I saw myself in a holiday snap and was shocked at my size. This is a picture of me at that time:

I was nearly 14 stone, a size 16, a drinker, and a smoker. I felt really sluggish most days, I was short of breath walking up stairs and I wobbled when I walked.

I made the decision that I was going to lose weight.

I tried all sorts of diets; Slim fast, Weight Watchers, the one with red and green days, but nothing worked consistently.

Spotlight Sunday: Nikki Davies! “I have more energy, I am so much fitter, I feel years younger and I have so many clothes I can now wear again!”

Sixteen months ago I decided that the time had come to make a change in my life. I felt stiff, overweight and old. I had noticed PW appearing on Facebook for a few months but I always thought it wasn’t the right time, but this time I took the plunge and signed up for their New Year Revolution challenge.

I have always hated gyms but PW is different, it’s just special, everyone is so welcoming, Anthony is amazing and the font of all knowledge for everything you need to know as well as being so motivational and encouraging. Jamie, who was one of the elite trainers, is my inspiration having been through the journey himself, but all trainers are superb and are with you every step of the way.

Like most people I’d spent Christmas over indulging with the mindset that I’d lose it all in January. Trouble is I’d said that for, perhaps, the last 6 Christmases and never lost it in January so year upon year I’d added to my weight.

I’d start a diet lose a few pounds, feel amazing then congratulate myself by “treating” myself to cakes, wine and any other thing I could convince myself I’d earned, thereby undoing all my good work. By the time I’d repeated this cycle twice a year I’d be thoroughly fed up, give up entirely, and hooray it’s Christmas again… I’ll worry about it in January.

This January it was a bit different.

Whilst browsing Facebook to kill the time, because, let’s face it, what else is there to do in January… I’d see my friend Tania pop up checking in at PW Physique and Fitness. My initial reaction was… she’s mad who works out at 5:45am and seems happy about it!! Surely that won’t last!

But day after day I saw these check-ins and I became curious and started asking questions, and all I got was glowing reports of this amazing place with the most amazing trainers and the people that went there.

Six short weeks later she posted her success story and that’s when I realised that this was something I had to try so I got in touch with Anthony and booked my taster session.

Spotlight Sunday: Debbie Marriott! “I lost 7 inches off my waist and realised PW had become like a family to me!”

Spotlight Sunday: Debbie Marriott! “I lost 7 inches off my waist and realised PW had become like a family to me!”

When I got married my waist was 22 inches, and I had never worried about what I ate or whether I exercised. Over the next eight years I had four children and was one of those annoying people who went back into jeans very quickly still not having to worry about weight!

As my children got older my husband and I started all-inclusive holidays while the grandparents had the kids and the older they got the longer the holidays got! Once they had grown up and left home the holidays became more regular and that’s when the weight started to creep on. We were all inclusive after all if would be rude not to try and eat and drink everything in sight, right??

Over the next few years I had tried lots of different forms of exercise and was even still involved in amateur dramatics, dancing and singing, but still the weight crept on! I then had painful knees which slowed me down resulting in a replacement knee two years ago. After that I was scared to exercise in case it hurt and also the weight increase was obviously down to my age, going through the menopause and nothing would work right???? Wrong!!!

Your Coffee is Making You Fat (Try This Instead)

Your Coffee is Making You Fat (Try This Instead)

Occasionally after we’ve dropped Sir Maxalot off at nursery, me and Nic nip to a cafe on the way home to grab a cuppa and plan out our work day. Nic’s cafe of choice between here and nursery (and, more crucially, because it’s open at that time of the morning!) is Costa.

Now, you may not know, but you can actually check out the nutrition information of all the drinks at most of the major coffee shops… and it makes interesting reading!

As a general rule, the fancier the drink, the more calorific it becomes, and when I say calorific, I’m talking in excess of 500 calories and 50g of sugar… that’s nearly 13 teaspoons!

And this is before you’ve bought a custard cream that’s the size of a small hatchback! (Seriously, do they have a lab where they capture and perform experiments on biscuits?)

Here’s something you can have instead to get in your coffee fix, get it for less than 300 calories, and swap out all that sugar for a bonus hit of protein:
