HOW A NEAR-CRIPPLING DISASTER LEAD ME TO DISCOVER EVEN FASTER FAT LOSS

When my son was born, it wasn’t a fast or easy birth. In fact he was 3 weeks overdue, and labour took nearly 3 days, ending in an emergency c-section with both mum and baby being infected.

They then had to be kept in hospital on anti-biotics for a further 7 days.

During the birth I was bent over birth pools, and eventually I spent those last days on the ward sleeping on hospital chairs.

This had unfortunately screwed up my lower back so badly that I spent the next few months on a combination of crutches and enough medication to take down a baby elephant…

…Until eventually one of the discs in my spine gave up.

I ended up back in hospital to have procedures of my own, and in the weeks I was waiting to go in, I’d gotten fat, weak, and I was twisted up like a pretzel.

Because of that disc I now have a weakness in my lower back which means I can’t do some of the things I used to do to stay in shape.

  • I can’t put a big weight through my spine, so no lifting super-heavy weights
  • I can’t sustain long-periods of impact, so no drawn-out cardio

I HAD TO GET CREATIVE

I had to find different, more effective ways to stimulate my muscles and trigger fat loss.

That’s when I stumbled on the three staples of our Personal Training programme:

  • Deep muscle activation
  • Contra-lateral movements
  • Multi-angular stimulation

I redesigned my programme around these principles and a funny thing happened…

I was prepared to build up slowly, to take a long-hard road, but the results just kept flowing.

I then spent about six months experimenting, using my clients as guinea pigs. They don’t mind, they’re good sports about it actually!
